How Firefox startup tabs work

Firefox allows you to open multiple tabs automatically on browser start. To do this, Firefox expects a single string of URLs separated by the pipe character | in the Homepage settings.

Each URL between two pipes is opened as a separate tab when Firefox starts.

Why TabsOnFire 🔥🗂️ exists

While the feature itself is powerful, editing pipe-separated URLs in a single-line input field is error-prone and frustrating.

TabsOnFire 🔥🗂️ turns that hidden configuration string into a clear, editable list so you can manage your startup tabs comfortably.

How to use TabsOnFire 🔥🗂️

TabsOnFire works both ways: you can create a new Firefox startup snippet from scratch, or edit an existing one.

Create a New Snippet

  1. Enter the URLs of the pages you want to open at startup, one by one.
  2. Reorder, edit, or remove any URL as needed.
  3. Copy the generated pipe-separated snippet.
  4. Paste it into Firefox → Settings → Home → "Homepage and new windows".

Edit an Existing Snippet

TabsOnFire 🔥🗂️ keeps everything local – nothing is stored or sent anywhere – so you can safely edit your startup tabs without worrying about privacy.
